Thoughts on Modesty (pt. 3)

Hello, lovely ladies. As you probably have noticed the Joyfully You team has been posting a series of blog posts about modesty and today it is my [Karina] turn to share my thoughts on modesty!

Throughout my life, I have associated with many ladies who share the same standards as I and some who have lower or higher standards. Since I have come in contact with many different types of standards I have come to realize that dressing modestly doesn’t make you modest.

“HOLD UP. What did you just say?!” Dressing modestly doesn’t make you modest. Still, don’t understand? Let me demonstrate:

The picture above shows women wearing identical floor-length dresses. Can you tell the difference between the two silhouettes? One woman is standing straight up while the other accentuates her curves. Wearing a floor-length dress is not the foundation for modest standards, but the heart is!

“In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel…” 1 Timothy 2:9

“Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.” Matthew 22:37

“If ye love me, keep my commandments.” John 14:15

We are told to dress modestly, love the Lord, and when we love the Lord we will keep his commandments. Not only should we obey Christ but we should always do it with a happy heart. Sometimes being obedient to Christ “gets in the way” of what we want but Elisabeth Elliot has something to say about that.

“When obedience to God contradicts what I think will give me pleasure, let me ask myself if I love Him.” ― Elisabeth Elliot

If your heart’s desire is to be seductive it will show through your clothing choice, modest or not. If you want to strive to be modest you need to have the right attitude about it; if you don’t then perhaps you don’t love Christ.

Although modest clothing styles are essential for those who are striving to be modest, modesty begins in the heart.

I completely agree! Thank you for sharing your thoughts and God’s Word about modesty. I think Christina has a t-shirt that days something like “Modest Is Hottest”. Nana and Poppy are proud of you and love you so very much!
