Hair Products 4 You!

source

Hey girls! (Senait here!) A few weeks ago Caroline suggested to me to share some of my favorite hair products with you guys! Soooo that’s what this post is all about! I also thought it would be fun if I posted four (now do you get the pun? hint look at title 😉 ) tips I’ve learned when it comes to hair products in general.

So hair products can be anything from shampoo and conditioner to leave-in conditioner and gel! I’m mainly talking about leave-in conditioner and oils for hair, but some of the tips may apply to other products as well! Let’s get started!

#1 EXPERIMENT!

The number one thing I’ve learned when it comes hair in general(whether it’s hair-do’s, products, or hair styles) is to EXPERIMENT! Sometimes you just have to try it out and see if it works for you or not! You just have to go for it!! And the same is true for trying out hair products. You try one and see how it works for you…then you try another and so on! The way I’ve found most of my favorite hair products is by just trying out all the different hair products in my mom’s bathroom… 😛 Also, try putting the hair lotion/oil in at different times to get different results. Try putting some in right after you shower, or when it’s dry, and see what works best for your hair. So if you find half empty bottles and containers of hair lotion lying around your house, try them out!!

#2 INGREDIENTS NOT COMPANIES

So what do you do when you’re standing in the hair products aisle at Walmart, with about a hundred different varieties of hair lotion to choose from? Overwhelming is an understatement, am I right? Well, what I’ve learned is to look a the main ingredients and not the companies of each product. For example, instead of grabbing Pantene’s newest release, I look at the main ingredients in the product. A few main ingredients in hair products are coconut, shea butter, aloe vera, etc… Each main ingredient will do something different to your hair. So try each one out and see what happens! Experiment! Haven’t tried a hair lotion with coconut in it? Go for it! What about shea butter? Try it out! Soon you’ll find which ingredients make your hair curl just right or feel so soft;)  Instead of looking for specific companies it’s good to begin with just the main ingredient and see what it does to your hair. Eventually you will find what hair product companies use your favorite ingredients.

#3 FAVORITE INGREDIENTS/ PRODUCTS

Hair lotions vs. Oils
Often times there are two different options for leave-in hair products. The first type is just a lotion to put in your hair. It’s usually thicker and creamy-like. The other is more like an oil. Coconut oil, or any oils, or sometimes egg are used in hair oils. The hair lotions are great for moisturizing your hair right after you’ve washed it and it needs a lot of nutrients. It’s meant to revitalize your hair, give it some nutrients, and strengthen it. Oils are good for second-day hairdo’s. Where you don’t need to completely “re-nourish” your hair but it needs a little touching up! Putting a little coconut oil at the ends of your hair, or to hold down some frizz is a job for the oils!

Okay so here is a list of some of my favorite ingredients in hair products: Coconut Oil, Argan Oil, Shea butter, Aloe vera, Olive Oil, and Almond Oil.
Here’s a few others I haven’t tried yet:
Babassu Oil, Alvocado Oil,
Jojoba Oil, Castor Oil, even carrots!

And these are my favorite products lately!

  • Kinky-Curly:  Shampoo, Conditioner, and Curl Custard.
  • Garnier Fructis: Leave-in conditioner and “Anti-frizz Serum,” (which is an oil).
  • Carol’s Daughter: Shampoo and Conditioner.
  • (and my favorite!) Cantu Hair Products: Shea Butter leave-in conditioner, and Argan Oil leave-in conditioner.

#4 Homemade hair-masks!

So hair masks are one of my favorite ways to condition my hair. After you use them your hair feels so soft!! They’re really good for you hair and it’s easy to do at home! Here is a simple recipe to make a hair mask and do at home:

Ingredients: 1 banana, 4 tbsp coconut oil, 8 oz. Greek yogurt, 2 tbsp olive oil.

Directions: Microwave coconut for 5 to 10 seconds/ chop up banana/ mix everything in a blender/ apply to damp hair from roots to tips and work through scalp/ then let it sit in your hair for 30 minutes (putting your hair in a shower cap might be nice;)/ rinse your hair and wash normally/ then enjoy your super soft, healthy hair! What are some of your favorite hair products/ingredients?

Any hair tips/recipes that worked for you?
