Pizza Anyone?

Hi y’all!

So, I am finally back on Joyfully You (Life is NUTS…. can anyone relate?) to let you in on a Haines family (that’s us up there- I am on the top right, in the middle of my younger brother and sister) secret recipe for… PIZZA!

(I know… it so has something to do with fashion, haha. )

Cooking is honestly an art for me (Savannah). Improvising and creating different foods that everyone in my family of nine likes is soooo fun!! (And challenging!) My family has never had cable; we’ve enjoying playing board games and sports rather than watching some TV.  However, there are only two TV shows I would watch if we did have it… Chopped & Cupcake Wars! I fell hopelessly in love years ago! LOL!

Every Friday night, starting a LONG time ago, we have our weekly pizza and movie night. Our pizza is always a hit, even if it does take a long time to make! Everyone LOVES it! (Or pretends to! 🙂 )

  • Bell Peppers
  • Banana Peppers
  • Onions
  • Sausage
  • Mushrooms
  •  Diced up Thin Sliced Honey Ham!

Pizza Assembly! (Wahoo!)

~Make the dough first!

Mix the flour, yeast, salt, and sugar together in plastic bowl. Don’t use a metal bowl or the yeast won’t activate! Run some hot water over the mixture and stir in. Don’t drench the mixture making it sticky! There should still be some dry flour in the bowl. After the water is stirred in well, mix 1/4 cup of olive oil (or canola oil or butter) into the mixture as well. The dough mixture should now be wet and sticky. Lastly, form the dough into a ball inside the bowl and coat with some more oil. Cover with a towel and place in a micro wave or some other cubby where it won’t be disturbed. Let rise for 30 min.

~While dough is rising make the pizza sauce and the garlic crust coating!

For the sauce mix the can of tomato sauce, can of tomato paste, water, and all spices and herbs in a small saucepan on medium heat. Stir well until it’s hot. Cover with a lid and reduce the heat to low.

Garlic Crust Coating:

Melt your butter in a small saucepan on low heat. Allow it to boil a little then add all your garlic, oregano, and salt. Turn the burner off… but make sure this mixture doesn’t solidify again.

~Cut up your bell peppers, mushrooms, onions, and honey ham. Grate your block of mozzarella cheese and FRY your sausage NOW! (I always forget to fry the sausage! Lol.)

~Also… now is the time to preheat your oven to 415*…

Butter your pizza pan, and spread the dough on it once it is done rising. Stick in the oven and set the timer for 5 minutes.

Once your timer has gone off, take your pizza out of the oven and brush your garlic crust coating over it. It you like the garlic taste do this twice or three times… but if not, one coating will be enough. Spread some sauce over the garlic coating, then sprinkle on your mozzarella cheese.  Top as you wish, and stick back in the over for 15 more minutes. Once this is done coat the edges of the crust with a little more garlic sauce and… YOU ARE DONE!!!

~ TIP:  If you find that your pepperoni is getting crispy (like we did), put it UNDER the sauce and cheese.

(Now go run and exercise off all that pizza!)

I hope you enjoy this family fun recipe, and let me know how it turns out!                                     Happy Cooking!
