I love Christmas so much! I think the entire month of November I’m just WAITING to finally hear Christmas music, and when Black Friday hits, I’m usually the first in our house to blast it, haha!
I got a set of Arteza watercolor pens last year for my birthday, and they have gotten a lot of use since! As I was doodling around a few weeks ago, I realized how simple it’d be to make cute watercolor gift tags to stick on presents.
If you’re anything like me, you understand that I like to do little spins on Christmas, so this year I chose to wrap most of my gifts in fabric (just fabric scraps and things saved from other projects) and tie them up with ribbon, adding these little tags to them. It just gives it a touch of creativeness, instead of simple wrapping paper that will end up in the trash!
The tags are quite simple and easy to make, so let’s get started!
I started out with a simple sheet of watercolor paper. I was given this kind of paper along with my pens last year, and I absolutely love the quality of it! It does not get pulpy like other types of watercolor paper, for sure.
Cut your watercolor paper into small squares or rectangles. Since I’m a ‘let’s wing it’ kinda person when it comes to art projects, I did not measure these squares, but I’d say they average to about 3×3.
Pick your colors and paint the tags. There’s a lot of different techniques to watercolor, but I like to water brush the paper first, then put on the color. I love color, and so I avoided the typical ‘red and green’ for gift tags, and went for more rainbow colors.
You can stick to classic red and greens instead of my vibrant purple and blue, if you’d like… 😉
Letter the name over the color. I used my new favorite Tombow pens (I got them this year for my birthday) and just put the name on after the paint had dried.
I then just punched a hole at the top and stringed some yarn through. ❤
My younger siblings would say, “TEE-DAH!” at this point, haha.
I hope you all have a very merry Christmas, celebrating the birth of our Savior with friends and family, and just feeling the JOY of this season!
