How should we respond to fear?

What is the first thing you think of when someone mentions “fear”? Fear is crippling. It hinders our ability to excel and live freely. Ever since Adam and Eve’s sin, everyone has experienced fear. So, how are we to deal with fear?

worry is a waste of time

Fear is a direct method that Satan uses to defeat us and make us people walking this earth in blind depression. In the Bible, Jesus commands “do not fear” many times. Mark 5:36 says, “But overhearing what they said, Jesus said to the ruler of the synagogue, ‘Do not fear, only believe’” (emphasis added). Notice that Jesus tells the ruler to believe. We need to fight fear with faith. Because, if we let fear have free range over our lives, we will not be able to do anything pleasant in our lives let alone live a normal life. We are letting Satan win.

Not only is fear crippling, but it also is sin. Matthew 6:25-27 says, “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear…Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?” (emphasis added). We are explicitly commanded not to worry.

Jesus is literally telling us that if God is willing to take care of birds, y’all we better believe He’ll take care of us!

So, how should we act when fears arise? Well, as I’m sure everyone is learning by now, we are living in a crisis like nothing anyone has seen in a long time…coronavirus is the 2020 pandemic. I’m not gonna lie…it is scary. There are literally so many things to freak out about, but guys, worrying over this does absolutely nothing! God is in COMPLETE control! I can sit all day and fret about my life, my family’s lives, my friends’ lives, but nothing’s gonna change. Nothing. As Christians, we need to pray, see what the Bible has to say about our fear, get help from others, and trust God.

worry by sea quote

We need to remind ourselves that God is good and has always ALWAYS provided for us. So, instead of letting Satan win, we can choose to have faith, pray for the coronavirus situation, be as safe as we can, and give our worries to God. He really cares guys. Prayer is a direct way to communicate with our heavenly Father. Use it! Treasure it!

2 Timothy 1

We will always experience fear, but we can choose to defeat it in the name of Jesus Christ. Prayer is a powerful asset in overcoming the lies and worries implanted in our minds by the devil. If we have courage and assurance in who God is, who Satan is, and who we are, we will be equipped to fight our battles with faith and certainty. We need to honor God and fear Him as a loving, powerful Father who is in complete control over everything. On our own, sin will tackle and defeat us. Our lives will be empty of all joy because fear will be ruling. However, “God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind” (2 Timothy 1:7). This is why we truly can overcome our fear with faith in Christ!

I really hope this post helped you in whatever you are going through right now. You are not alone. Always remember that God will not give you something that you cannot handle (1 Corinthians 10:13). He loves His children.

Thank you for such an encouraging post! Fear is a liar! These days it seems like there is much to be afraid of, but I know that fear will do us no good.

I’m so glad this helped you right when you needed it most! I’m always so thankful when I feel like I helped even one person :). Remember, fight fear with faith! Satan will try to make us believe his lies, but we can overcome them with faith in our Saviour (1 John 5:1-5).
