Outfit // What I Made From A Strapless Thrift Store Dress

Hey you guys!

I’m super excited to share with you something I did last week. I’ve been into refashioning lately (this lady + her book are just huge inspiration sources for me!) and I’ve been wanting to get my hands on a sewing project.

I was out thrifting with my Nana (I’m finally off quarantine πŸ˜‰ ) last week and came across this strapless dress at Goodwill. I don’t wear strapless dresses and this one wouldn’t have fit me anyways, but I loved the gingham navy/white pattern.

I’m a total sucker for blue + white and got to thinking… can I make a skirt out of it?

So I did. And it’s pretty much my new favorite skirt. πŸ˜‚

The sewing part was easy. I pretty much just cut off the top part, hemmed the waist band, and fixed the elastic a bit. It already had elastic in it, so I *thankfully* did not have to add anything new.

I have been enjoying the June summer weather + needing some airier clothes, and this skirt is so light and breezy! I added a fake ‘wrap’ element to the right side of the skirt which I just love! 😍

The shirt was a birthday gift last year from my parents. I love this comfy tee and can I just say…. my parents are incredible dream supporters!! Uganda, Africa is where I am dreaming to go to be a missionary, and that is the country that is on the shirt. (Um… yeah it’s navy & white. #seriousweakness)

The shoes are from Amazon, and they are so perfect for summer! And I need to go repaint my toenails, haha. xD

Happy summer y’all! Go out and enjoy this weather… just don’t melt. πŸ˜‰

p.s. photo credits go to my amazing ‘little’ brother. Thanks, bro!

So pretty! I don’t wear strapless dresses either, but I would have never guessed that that beautiful skirt came from one! πŸ˜€

So cute!! If I had just seen the skirt I would have never guessed that you made it from a dress!! I wouldn’t wear a strapless either. It probably would never stay on me… XD
I want to make a skirt, but I don’t know that I will be able to get any elastic. We already have the fabric from like, 4 years ago, but no elastic!! *cries*
oh well…I’ll just have to wait like another year….

      Aw thanks Haley!!
That’s a bummer! 😦 My mom got this HUGE thing of elastic a few years ago, which was such a blessing because the world was running short of elastic over quarantine due to the mask making. But hopefully you’ll be able to make a cute skirt sometime! I have some fabric a friend gave me, and I’m hoping to make a skirt soon too! πŸ™‚

I actually did something very similar to this a few weeks ago. I was looking for some new skirts (preferably around knee length for winter so I could wear it with a coat and boots) but couldn’t find any long enough, so I bought a dress on sale which just had spaghetti straps and cut the top off, hemmed a waistband ect. and now I have a really nice skirt (which didn’t take too much effort for someone like me who doesn’t really have any sewing skills) πŸ˜‰ πŸ˜€
